MicroUnit - remote I/O system
General description of the MicroUnit series
The MicroUnit series I/O modules are designed especially for the implementation of distributed systems for the monitoring and control of technological processes, but they can be also used in many other applications in the field of laboratory measurements, etc. Modules work as remote intelligent units able to process analog or digital signals from sensors and generate analog and digital control signals.
Communication between modules and the central system is based on the Modbus RTU protocol via RS-485 line as default, however, there are available LAN converters with native data transfer Modbus TCP, USB converters and various types of add-on cards. Special LAN converters-concentrators with datalogger function are also available.
Overview of the basic features of the MicroUnit series
- RS-485 communication line with transient overvoltage protection
- standard Modbus RTU communication protocol as default
- additionally, modules also support high-speed channel-oriented AIBus-2 protocol
- communication baud rate up to 230,4kBd
- configuration memory with software and hardware write protect feature (part of memory available for user data)
- reliable system watchdog & application watchdog to prevent technology crash
- working temperature range -10÷60°C as default, wider temperature range -40÷70°C as option (possibility of full functional test performed on each piece in temperature & humidity chamber)
- built into industrial DIN 35 mm housings Modulbox (see picture above)
- special types available in front panel housing (LCD modules, etc.) or as non-encapsulated kits designed for installation in equipments
- Control Web drivers for free

(software for configuring measurement tasks and recording data to disk) - an extremely wide range of I/O types and features (analog inputs for unified signals or direct sensor connection, analog inputs for three-phase electric power system, analog outputs, various of types digital inputs/outputs, counters with IRC encoder or computing unit, SSI interface support, etc.)
- special high precision and stable instruments for thermocouple measuring equipped with temperature-shielded box
Drivers and software
As mentioned above, MicroUnit modules are equipped with two communication protocols - standard Modbus RTU and channel-oriented AIBus-2. Protocols are software selectable during user configuration.
For typical applications with PC or PLC as a Modbus RTU master, there is no need to use specific MicroUnit drivers, because any general software support for this protocol can be used.
In the case of programs using AIBus-2 protocol (e.g. ControlWeb drivers and TEDIA MicroUnit datalogger) specific software support is required. However, the installation packages of these programs already contain AIBus-2 protocol support for the various RS-485 interfaces.
Configuration & test utility support both Modbus RTU and AIBus-2 protocols.
